Last November, Christmas came pretty early for us – Me and some of the Toronto Bloggers, Vloggers and influencers got invited for a fun weekend getaway with The BodyShop. An escape back to our childhood slumber party days. I was tasked to take photographs of the event as the official Photographer. This is actually the first time I got invited to be a blogger and the photographer at the same time. I do love the challenge and take on the responsibility. Little did I know we were all in for a surprise. I met up with my girlfriend Tania whom you met from my last blog post and with Alyssa of Random Acts of Pastel to meet our driver for the road trip. We headed towards Blue Mountain’s beautiful Hidden Gem – Click the link to view the amazing Chalet we stayed in (Blue Mountain Heaven).
The drive took about almost two hours and since we were heading North, the scenery is so beautiful and there was lots of snow! there was none back in Toronto. I was pretty thrilled because that was the first snow I’ve seen since last March. We almost got lost, as at the end of the street was all really big properties and the house numbers were fully covered in snow. The reception on our phones are not that strong but I think that’s actually a good idea so you could fully disconnect online and instead focus on nature and more on relaxing. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our designated rooms. The Inside of the Chalet was stunning! it even has a wooden elevator that could take you all the 4 floors of the house. It also has other 2 more chalets on the property. Our room was situated in the main house, downstairs by the Spa area, which was amazing as we get to fully experience all the Bodyshop’s masks, sauna and easier access to the pool. I shared the room with Tania, I swear she was the best roommate! Beside our room were Filipa and Amy. Our rooms were stocked with all the Bodyshop Christmas gifts and a big giant Christmas stocking with our name written on it. It was only the four of us on the first floor of the house. When all the girls arrived, there was about 20 of us, we were given a backpack with more goodies and our onesies with all our name on it. It was so touching how they personalized everything. We also had a personal chef’s who prepared us all vegetarian meals. For dinner, we had an amazing selection of vegetarian meal, My favourite is the stuffing vegetarian casserole, mashed potato with vegan gravy. Before dinner we had a pool & spa party. They also organized an entertainment room where we had all the boardgames, more gifts, all the games you used to play back in grade school and did I mention we had karaoke? Everyone did a song and dance number while we sip hot cocoa, some opt out for the jello shots and some had wine and champagne. We also had some smore’s during the entertainment room time. Everyone went to bed at 11pm-12am, full of laughter and definitely lots of memories to be kept forever with our new found friends. Tania and I pretty much stayed up till 3 am just masking and talking with some champagne in our mugs with our personalized name on it till we passed out.
The next morning, We woke up in a winter wonderland as the snow pours outside our window. It was so beautiful! I also woke up with a really nice skin from last night’s masking and skincare. upon going up in the kitchen I could already smell the freshly made pancakes and freshly brewed coffee. Some of the girls are already outside taking photos while it was snowing. I took this time to have my tea outside, reflecting how amazing it has been that weekend.
After Breakfast, we headed upstairs to receive one more gifts, this time from under the tree, all wrapped up nicely. Jamie the head of the Bodyshop team also talked about the charity they are doing (Play for Peace) for the Syrian refugee’s this Christmas that by purchasing a gift from The Body Shop‘s seasonal gift set collection, you can contribute to their Peace Play Project for Syrian refugee children for one year in Shatila refugee camp in Lebanon. When we opened our gifts, it was our favourite board games as a kid, mine was Monopoly, with this we were given another board game (same as the one we have) to wrapped and will be sent to a Syrian refugee kid this coming Christmas. It was such a great moment knowing that we get to help other people thru them. Sometimes we really need to stop thinking too much about our needs and for once be selfless and think about others too, some people have it worse than what we have right now. I constantly need to remind myself this since I am too exposed to social media every day (Instagram) and it does make you question your worth and why your life is not as awesome as theirs. Remember most of the things we see online is all curated and edited. No matter how awesome it may look, they too are having the same thoughts as you do.
Going back to the gift wrapping for kids in Syria, It was a very overwhelming experience that I actually wanted to do more charity. I can’t wait to tell you all about my plan for 2018 for this part. Our trip ended here and we all went home mind full of good memories, our bellies warm and our heart is full. We also pretty much stocked up our car with our giant’s stockings with all the amazing stuff we got from The Body Shop Christmas gifts collection- check out the collection HERE. You still have two more days before Christmas, all you need to do is hurry now to the nearest shop and get one for your loved ones, already wrapped up for you and you also get to help a Syrian refugee kid this Christmas.
