Platito – Filipino Brunch Style

Platito – Filipino Brunch Style

I love Filipino Food! Having been half filipino and lived in Philippines it’s my mission to hunt for the best Filipino restaurant in Toronto.

A friend of mine recommended to try out Platito for Brunch. They’ve been open now for 2 months. You know I always give the honest review on everything. I’m a little disappointed in this place and was hesitant to blog about it. But good or bad it has be heard.

Platito is located at

35 Baldwin Street

647- 347 – 0135

First thing I noticed is the price. It’s too pricey and the brunch menu doesn’t offer that much. I was hoping for the food to taste good.

I ordered the beef tapa. The presentation looks really good but when I started eating it I got really more disappointed. Food was not that warm and the beef was really hard, not what I was hoping for a $15 meal. I finished my plate as I was really starving having been walking around from Yorkville to the location.

The 2nd thing I tried is their famous dessert and my favorite UBE (the new matcha) made to be a waffle topped with ube ice cream with macapuno and filipino stick-o. Again the presentation looks appealing, But the waffle wasn’t impressive. I can’t taste the ube in it, the ice cream is really good! and I love the originality but not really on the taste.

After the disappointing brunch (The waiter even gave us the wrong change! The bill was $47 and we gave him 70 to have the extra $20 bill to be changed for the tip he came back with $11. umm hello? We did correct him but still gave the wrong change, we just gave up. lol) we walked around the neighbourhood towards UofT to admire the beautiful victorian homes.

I also found a perfect place for outfit photos.

Overall Verdict about Platito:

Pro’s :

  1. love the presentation of the food.
  2. love the location and the ambiance of the place
  3. Philippine memorabilia were nice touches.
  4. Service and time of the orders were efficient

  1. Price is too expensive for the portion and quality of the food
  2. Food is not warm enough
  3. Food does not taste really good and fresh
  4. Pandesal does not look fresh at all

Totally not going back for brunch anymore at this place, I did hear they serve better after 5pm with pulutan (bbq-grill filipino style serve when drinking) but maybe thats up to you to try.

It’s nice to know about Pinoy food in your area and knowing that you’re half Filo too. Love this post, I shall come back for more.

Thanks for sharing this post, the place looks fancy also the food presentation, sorry to hear that the food wasn’t good. I did not know you are half Filipino. Too bad they didn’t do a good job on the tapsilog. Btw, we will be in old montreal and old quebec in 2 weeks. Any recommendations?
